Another more Markdown focused alternative is which is also pretty great. Crazy, not designed for Markdown, more traditional word processor UI, but its suggested edits and changelog works the best. Both iA Writer and Ulysses work equally well on iOS and Mac. So I typically end up gathering notes in iA Writer, then working on longform in Ulysses. It hides markdown formatting for links and images, which is both great and terrible-it’s great to streamline text while writing, but makes copying and pasting back and forth frustrating for editing. It’s library management and search tools are perhaps the best of any writing app I’ve used. Ulysses is my other primary writing app, typically for longer form writing. I also often use it for full long-form writing. It’s what I reach for when writing random things throughout the day instead of writing something in the text box of a website, I’ll write it there and copy it over. Love its simplicity and lack of settings-and that it provides a great Markdown writing experience while still being pure plain text. IA Writer is perhaps the writing app I’ve consistently used the longest.
